I will reply online soon.I understand you want to know if taking both Lexapro and Trazodone is safe.These medications are very commonly used together without any negative interactions.There is, however, some risk of the two causing excessive amounts of serotonin (also known as serotonin syndrome). The risk is quite low...some studies showing less than 1% of patients. I did want to mention it so you have thorough information. Symptoms of serotonin syndrome include high blood pressure, fast heart rate, agitation, fever, sweating, tremors, muscle rigidity, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. It is a medical emergency and is treatable. Rarely, it can cause death, but typically only if untreated. It can occur at anytime during treatment.Again, serotonin syndrome is rare. I have seen hundreds of patients on the combination of Lexapro and Trazodone and none of them have had serotonin syndrome.I hope this helps! Lexapro can cause sedation, too, but it is not as common as Trazodone causing sedation. Lexapro can be taken any time of day.
