Vasoconstricting drugs

Will cease when use is ceased. The elevated blood pressure sitbcknchill mentions is another regular symptom, prolonged use could cause the condition Hypertension.Incidently, tobacco, caffeine and cough and cold medications, especially those that are decongenstants containing things like pseudoephedrine cause vasoconstriction so it would be sensible to consider minimizing use of these if any parrots are determined to use amphetamine. Tobacco is known to cause a condition called Peripheral vascular disease which affects mobility long term and certainly causes discomfort and often pain. From medscape: "methamphetamine lacks much of the peripheral stimulant properties of amphetamine while still offering euphoric and hallucinogenic properties. These actions are similar to those of cocaine; however, while effects of cocaine last for 10-20 minutes, duration of amphetamine action is much longer, lasting as long as 10-12 hours..Catecholaminergic (sympathomimetic) effects of amphetamines include inotropic and chronotropic effects on the heart, which can lead to tachycardia and other dysrhythmias. The vasoconstrictive properties of the drugs can lead to hypertension and/or coronary vasospasm. Serotonergic action of amphetamines on peripheral vasculature can lead to vasoconstriction, which is especially problematic in placental vessels.”Prolonged, especially IV use of amphetamine has many health risks and I wonder if the emersoncats parrot is perhaps experiencing problems through use? Taking another drug to counteract the negative effects of the first may work in the short time but it could also lead to problematic poly drug use in the long run. Best of luck to the parrot! Last edited by a moderator: Sep 10, 2017 Cannabis, initially does raise your blood pressure but also is found to decrease it as well with regular use. Actually it is being studied as a treatment for hypertension among many other things. It is known to be a mild vasodilator. I don't want to throw this thread too far off topic though might be a good topic to discuss in the right thread. It is interesting indeed. t9358 Newbie Reputation Points: 5 Joined: Mar 11, 2012 from U.S.A. A good otc regimin for vasoconstriction is BEFORE the DOC is ingested, 3 grams of l-arginine/2.5 grams l-citrulline/500mg l-norvaline with 16 oz
